Course
Description:
| Course designed to treat entire plant kingdom with emphasis on structure, function, and genetics of flowering plants. Fundamental cell and tissue structure of both vascular and non vascular plants are studied. Associated physiological and chemical effects as related to function are emphasized. Meets Area 4A general education requirements for the A.A. degree. Meets Areas 4 or 5 general education requirements for the A.S. degree. |

to The student should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the:
- basic characteristics of the plant and the basic areas of study in the science of plants.
- structure and functions of different basic plant cells.
- structure, development and function of the plant stem.
- basic processes involved in photosynthesis and how they relate to the morphology of the leaf.
- basic processes involved in respiration and digestion of metabolites.
- structure, development and function of the root.
- development, structure and function of the flower along with the production of seeds in the ovary.
- development and structures of the fruit.
- various methods of sexual and asexual propagation.
- basic plant growth and differentiation theories.
- demonstrate an understanding of the basics of ecology.
- alteration of gametophyte and sporophyte generations as applied to the theory of plant evolution and the basic plant life cycles.
- demonstrate an understanding of phylogeny in the plant kingdom starting with the bacteria and finishing with flowering plants.
- demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of heredity in plants.
