Irmgard on recent trip to Alaska (Chris' Peak Glacier outside of Juneau)

Irmgard has worked for Broward Community College for many years: originally as a Speech Faculty member and debate coach, then as the Department Head for Communications on Central Campus and currently as the Associate Vice President of the Honors Institute. Irmgard served as Chapter President, Region Director and State Vice President for the Florida Association of Community Colleges. In addition, she has served as a Training Consultant on the state and local level for many government agencies and corporations; such as American Express, Ryder Corporation, the Sunrise Police Department, the Miramar Fire Department and the NorthEast Regional Hospital District.

Irmgard is a former 1997-98 LEAP Scholar who had the opportunity to shadow Dr. Willis Holcombe, former President/BCC, during her LEAP year. Irmgard credits the invaluable experiences of the LEAP program with the opportunity she received to attend the University of Texas at Austin on a Post-doctoral Fellowship. Irmgard gained national experience when she was appointed Assistant Director of NISOD while completing the Community College Leadership Program at the University of Texas. Irmgard’s previous educational background includes an A.A. from Broward Community College, a B.A. from Florida Atlantic University, an M.A. from the University of South Florida, and a Ph. D. in Speech Communication and Higher Education Administration from the University of Florida.

At present, she teaches an Honors Public Speaking class each fall at BCC's Central Campus, in addition to her administrative responsibilities with the BCC Honors Institute. She resides in Ft. Lauderdale with her yorkie and her three cats. She enjoys international travel, antique hunting, dancing, and reading.
