PERSONAL PHILOSOPHICAL STATEMENT
Philosophy Of Nursing And Nursing Education: It is
based upon the belief that each person is a holistic being, has unique
abilities and possess certain needs. A person is influenced by biological
and psychological characteristics; cultural influences, level of well being
and the developmental stage within the life cycle. Nursing care promotes
wellness to individuals and families based on their level of health on the
‘Health-Illness continuum.’ I believe that the central reason for the
existence of nursing is to deliver high quality health care to people.
Nursing provides high standard of humanistic care regardless of race, color,
age, sex or religion. It encompasses the patient and family, respects their
rights and allows them to make choices regarding their care. My concept of
nursing and nursing education is implemented within the framework of the
nursing process, it is holistic and dynamic in function and action. Nursing
education is scientifically based. It fosters and supports advancement in
nursing through research and continuing education. Florence Nightingale
(Notes on Nursing 1859) states that ,‘I have often thought how wise a piece
of education would be……, and in our calling of nurses the thing itself is
essential.’ I strongly support and will continue to provide high quality
nursing education, because education is the ‘art and science’ of the nursing
profession. Today, my goal is to continue to contribute to society through
involvement and commitment to nursing education, practice and research. I
would like to continue to educate nurses so that they can fully understand
what encompasses the nursing paradigm.
