- We will use this time to orient yourself in using WebCT.
Welcome
to EPI 0003, Technology. I have been teaching at Broward Community
College for over 20 years in the Science/Wellness Department and
recently the Social & Behavioral Science/Education. Hopefully
the knowledge you gain from the students and myself will be an enjoyable
experience as you begin involvement in an incredible new field of
study, education. You will find that you will learn from your courses,
each other and your students. Good luck.
This
course prepares the participant to employ technology as an integral
part of the teaching and learning process. Instruction is provided
in commonly used software suites and on the Internet. The use of
blended learning to enrich and engage students and increase their
technology skills is a major emphasis. Copyright and fair use guidelines
are reinforced..
This
is a 3-credit hour course. Normally, a three-credit hour course
would meet twice each week (during a 8 week term) for a total of
6 hours per week or 45 hours per term. In this class, we will not
meet except for a one time mandatory orientation session on Jan
5. You will engage in structured outside or online activities for
the remainder of the class time. The course will include weekly
online discussions, self-reflections, project-based assignments
and activities, readings, and group projects.

. The student shall be able to demonstrate an understanding
of the status of current educational technoloogy and the future
of technology in the classroom.
2. The student shall utilize productivity software pertinent
to the field of education
3. The student shall be able to describe and use various types
of computer generated presentations and multimedia applications
which are available to enhance classroom instruction.
4. The student shall review and evaluate software pertinent
to the education field.
5. The student shall demonstrate a general understanding of
how to locate course materials through accessing online databases
and the Internet.
6. The student shall be able to conceptualize and develop
an educational web site.
7. The student shall be able to understand security risks,
ethics and emerging technology in education.

online weeks include group discussions, assignments and projects.

in the event that WebCT is not working.
- Hardware
requirements include access to a computer. You may use the BCC
computer labs on any campus or a home computer with the following
browser; Netscape 4.76 or 6.2 or Explorer 5.0 to 6.0 SP1. See
browser requirments.
- In
order to be successful in this course you should be familiar with
basic keyboarding skills, basic Internet research and file management.

Users who have upgraded to Windows XP from Windows 95,98,ME,NT,2000
do not need to download any additional files.
Windows XP does not include the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). The
JVM is used by some tools within WebCT. Students with new machines
or who perform a clean installation of Windows XP will automatically
be offered the choice to perform a one-time download of the virtual
machine the first time you try to access any tool within WebCT that
uses Java.You must download the entire file before continuing to
use WebCT.

will be no required textbooks for the couse. The textbook is online

and course content within the course.

How
to Access the Course once you are Enrolled in this Course
Students
will be permitted to login to the course beginning Wed May 10,
6 pm during the required, mandatory online orientation.
Students who do not come to class on the first day (orientation
class), will not be permitted to continue with the course. Please
see the register and withdraw from the course for a full refund.
