Rel 1210 Old Testament


Course Description

REL 1210 is designed to introduce students to the Old Testament, examing several source material, with emphasis on it cultural importance today. The first part of the course will introduce students to the books of the Law. The second part will deal with the books of history. The third part will focus on poetry and wisdom literature. The final part will cover history and the Prophet.

Methods of Instruction

Students meet weekly with the professor. The course is lightly enhanced through Blackboard, where students take tests and submit assignments and correspond with each other and the professor.

Tests and course organization: Students will have some brief open book chapter quizzes. You will have two tests during the term. The first (the mid-term) will cover the first seven chapters and the second (the final) will cover the remaining five chapters of the text book. Most of the questions from the tests will come from practice quizzes and the textbook. Course organization will be readings and practice quizzes, discussion postings, assignments, two exams and optional visits to religious sites.

Course Requirements

Students who are new to e-learning should take BC's online readiness evaluation.

No special pre-requisites or preparation in religion needed for this course. All students should review BC's current hardware and software requirements to make sure that their computers meet BC standards. How to Register for this Course

Register on campus or BC's Student Online System. You must pay for the course before you will be able to log into the course. There may be a delay of as much as 36 hours after paying before your login will be activated.

How to Access this Course once you are Enrolled in this Course

  1. Required on campus orientation
    Go to the BC's WebCT Homepage for email lookup and login instructions.
    Campus orientation is usually held in Building 17 / Room 219 .
  2. Students Login themselves
    The only people who will be permitted to login are those students who have registered and paid for the course. There may be a delay of up to 35 hours from when a student registers and pays before WebCT login is activated Obtain BC User ID and PIN code before attempting to login to WebCT. Click on "ID Lookup" then enter your SS# (or INTL Student ID#) and PIN code (2 digit birth month and 4 digit year). Write down your email ID (not the @broward.edu). That's your WebCT login. Your WebCT ID is the same as your BCC email user ID. Your WebCT password is the same as your BCC email PIN code.
