Course Description
Rel 2300 is a phenomenoogical examination of the world's most popular religions. The reading assignments and the optional site visits will cover many religions that are not emphasized in the classroom. Religion is a term that many use but few can define. Therefore, we will start the first half of the course by studying the ways that scholars have defined religion. Then, we will proceed to studying the religions that developed out of India: Hinduism, Jainism, Islam and alternative paths.
Methods of Instruction
I teach World Religion (REL 2300) through several course formats: Regular courses, Honors web-enhanced course, Open College course and Fully Online courses. Students submit tests and assignments in blackboard.
Tests and course organization: Students will have some brief open book chapter quizzes. You will have two tests during the term. The first (the mid-term) will cover the first seven chapters and the second (the final) will cover the remaining five chapters of the text book. Most of the questions from the tests will come from practice quizzes and the textbook. Course organization will be readings and practice quizzes, discussion postings, assignments, two exams and optional visits to religious sites.
