HLP 1081 Total Wellness - Fully Online
Professor Sharon Rifkin

Professor Sharon Rifkin believes in having students complete an Online Orientation at the beginning of the term. The orientation information is available from the homepage indicating to students to begin by clicking that link. Included in the orientation is a welcome letter, a video course map and a detailed navigation of the course. Students complete orientation assignments consisting of an email to the instructor, posting an introduction welcome discussion, a welcome assignment and a 10-question quiz based on the Syllabus. Below is what students see before they complete the Online Orientation.

Within the "24/7 Help & FAQs" area, students can find contact information for any technical questions they have as well as some of the most frequently asked questions and answers. Below is a screen shot of the FAQs page.

Included in the Orientation module is a narrated course map using PowerPoint. Students are given a tour of the course and where to find assignments, readings, assessments and how to use the learning module including clicking the plus sign for additional content. The screenshot below shows the Professor Rifkin's narrated introduction to the course.

This screenshot below captures part of the orientation where Professor Rikin shows students how to navigate throughout the course.

Student do not have access to the entire course until after receiving 100% on the syllabus orientation quiz, which may be taken as many times as necessary to receive 100%.  After successful completion of the orientation the learning unit module is available to the students. Below is what students see on the course homepage after they have successfully complete the Online Orientation.

Learning modules are divided into units based on the College course learning outcomes. See below for the layout of all learning modules in Professor Rifkin's HLP 1081 fully online course.

Each unit begins with a detailed page of learning outcomes, readings, assessments and/or assignments. Included in course content are self-assessment review quizzes, a weekly graded discussion, and project assignments. Students do not need to leave the unit in order to complete assignments and assessments for any particular module. See below:

Course content was written in “SoftChalk”, which is a web page authoring software, and each page of content includes small chunk of text, images, activities and videos.  Students click to the next page for additional content. Below is an example content page showing Unit 5.
